12 days later...I'm slowly healing and working my way back....

Twelve days ago, I underwent surgery to remove a mass that was millimeters from my brain. While taking care of that...my surgeon also repaired a hole in my eardrum, and he also broke and reset some bones in my ear with the hopes of improving my hearing...I guess I got three operations in one.

I'm experiencing some side effects of the surgery but I'm healing slowly. The surgeon says the side effects should ease off in a month or two and I'm hoping they do! So far, I've lost the taste on the left side of my tongue, the tinnitus in my ear is worse now than ever and the popping and nerve impulses are driving me nuts. My eyes are impacted a bit too and can get very watery and blurry at times. I can handle a lot of body pain but pain in my head? yeah I'm not so good with that. There is some minor facial paralysis too and I've dribbled my drink on me many times.

I was given Tramadol after the surgery and for the first week or so it was a blessing to have...I slept a lot and it seemed like a week went by in a blur and fog of sleepiness and pain pills. But oh did I get bunged up! I've weaned myself off the pain pills but some days I'm wishing I had more. Good thing I don't feel guilty for just going back to bed when I need it.

The picture above is the "cone" that was on my ear for the first few days to keep it protected. Yeah it's a little silly, but it made me smile to see the smiley face sticker on it. The two below here are the before and after of the staples. There were 14 in total but surprisingly they came out rather easily. With some Vitamin E cream, the scar will heal nicely.

Thank you for all the wishes and prayers! I do believe they worked wonders. To read all the comments left for me have been like big hugs and they're greatly appreciated! I'm still healing and will need some time to get back to "normal" but I'm trying.

thank you once again!

Just want to wish you well..You've been a gem to me in my personal healing..I've had a face lift and I've had this type of scar on both sides..Healed very nice..I hope they got out, everything that they needed and you have a full recovery..Again, I wish you well and thank you for your interest in everyone else..

Tammy, glad to hear (sorry no pun intended!) That you are slowly healing. My mom had to have a similar surgery for a non cancerous brain tumor and she too had minor facial paralysis and trouble with the "nerve popping" you describe. I'm happy to report that her symptoms finally started abating around 5 weeks post op and at 9 weeks post op, she was feeling much better. Of course, your results may vary but I wanted to offer a cautionary tale! Take care of you during this tough time. Hope you feel better soon!
