Chores...Do I have to?

Along with adulthood comes the responsibility for the chores within our households. (oh yay..what joy eh?) Living with pain can often impact how we are able to accomplish those chores. Knowing our daily limits and abilities will help us to work within them.

One of the things I struggle with is carrying my laundry over two flights of stairs to the basement. At first, I would throw my laundry down one flight of stairs,  gather it all up, carry it to the other flight, and throw it down again. I was terrified of carrying my laundry over the stairs as I had fallen several times doing such.

To help make this chore easier for myself, I now keep a laundry basket on the main floor just inside the door to the basement, minimizing a set of stairs. Instead of waiting till the basket is full, I carry lighter loads down the stairs now.
Dishes...YUCK... have always been something I never really liked. I like making the mess in the kitchen cooking and creating, not cleaning up. Living single however, means I have no choice. When my pain is high and dishes are on my list, I plan breaks into the routine, allowing myself a moment to sit down if I need or to dance a little in the kitchen, working out the kinks from standing at the sink.

If you live with someone, it's a good idea to discuss the household chores and decide which ones you will each do, and which ones you can do together. When my daughter and I did our chores together,  she would clean the bathtub because it kills my back, and I would do the rest of the bathroom. If I was doing laundry and she was home, she would carry it up the stairs for me.

There are ways we can accomplish our chores, and manage our homes. It may need some re-working and co-operation from the family, but it can be done.

Happy Chore Day folks!
