Pineapple is a versatile fruit and it can be eaten fresh or canned, and it can be baked and even cooked...and there's other options too. Blending pineapple into a smoothie comes to mind very easily.
I was once told at the farmers market that the best way to tell if your pineapple is ripe and ready...is to pull a leaf...if it comes out easily...the pineapple is ready...if you have to tug on it a bit...it's not ripe yet.
