I'm Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired RANT....Modern Medicine....You won't cough...but you might die?

Okay...so I'll give you that it's a little dramatic to say "you won't cough...but you might die". Modern medicine has come a long way through the generations and many illnesses and diseases have been wiped out because of the advances in modern medicine. People are living longer "healthier" lives than generations past.

That being said however...modern medicines have caused many problems as well...and yes even death.

Have you ever really listened to a television commercial touting the benefits of one medication or another? I mean really listened? Now did your glasses allow you to see the fine print warnings that come with the medicine as the commercial was ending? Did you hear the announcers voice list off the warnings? His/her calm voice quickly warning you of all the dangers and often life threatening side-effects of the medicine, while you watched people laughing, running, picking up and swinging their grandchildren, people riding their bikes, flying kites, being intimate with their partner. Did you hear it?

What about the ads in the magazines? Did you read those too? The words they want you to see are bold, loud and clearly printed...their message "this will help you"..."your life will better if you take this"...easily perceived by the smiling model. But the words they don't want you to see? Well...anyone got a magnifying glass handy?

Could potentially increase your risk for certain cancers. Could lower your ability to fight certain infections and or diseases. Could cause liver and/or kidney damage. Could cause and/or increase your risk for heart attack and/or stroke. Could develop and/or increase depression and anxiety. Could increase and/or cause increased intrusive or other suicidal thoughts. Could cause difficulty breathing. Could cause difficulty swallowing. Could cause bladder and/or urinary tract infections. Could cause ulcers of the stomach lining and/or esophagus. Could cause a worsening in symptoms. Could cause allergic reaction resulting in death. Could cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure. Could cause an unsafe increase in blood pressure. Could interfere with cognitive functioning and alertness. Could cause...Could cause...Could cause....

Have you ever had to take a medication to treat the side-effects of another? Has a medication ever been the "cause" of your worsening symptoms? Has a medication ever caused an illness? Yes...you won't cough...but you might die. Yes...you may feel less pain...but you might die. Yes you will feel less anxious...but your thoughts could kill you.

Are the medications you're currently using, really beneficial for you and your life? Are there other options you can turn to? Have you explored them? Will you explore them? Please understand that I am not saying there isn't a place for modern medicines...but I am saying it's not your only option.

Have an open line of communication with your doctor and/or treatment team. Speak to your pharmacist! ask questions when you have them. Although your doctor will only prescribe a medication because they feel the risks are outweighed by the benefits...YOU...are the one living with the side-effects and potential risks...the choice and decision is yours...modern medicine...choose wisely...please?

Take good care of you eh?

Yes. I was on a heart medicine to control pvc's, no ther meds worked, and the side effect was high probability of death once you try to stop taking it. Well I did stop taking this medicine but those 2 weeks were scary. And it turned out the pvc's were caused by my bulging c5 vertebrae pulling the entire system out of physical place. Health stuff can be scary. Not all doctors are created equal. Glad you're feeling better. Merry Christmas 🎄
