Quality of life when living with pain....

Quality of life...a measure of function? I'm not sure I would agree with that statement. There is more to consider when determining quality of life in my opinion...and if we only focus on functional-ability we lose sight of so much else.

When you think of your life...what would you say is the quality of your life? What did you think about when determining that?

Quality of life is something we all strive for but it's up to us as individuals to determine for ourselves what the quality of our lives is.

In your life....how would you define quality of life and is it different now than before your pain or illness? It most likely is different now...but would you say there is still quality to your life? Give it some thought okay?

The scale here represents what the levels are but I don't think it truly represents all the ways and happenings in our lives which can be of quality. It's limited in my opinion...however...it does give a level for comparison and consideration.

When you consider where are you on the scale now and where would you like to be...is there a difference? If there is...give thought to what can you do to help you achieve a different quality of life moving forward. Are your goals realistic for your abilities? What steps can you take to help you achieve them? Who can you turn to for help? Just some questions to think about.

To me...our quality of life is important to our healing. The things that make us smile...the things that makes us feel good...the things, experiences and the people in our lives that make life worth living...gives a quality to our lives that is unmatched.

take good care of you eh?

Thank you for this (and all) article. It is extremely helpful to remember that WE are in control of how we feel about our disabilities. If we can find our situation as a challenge to overcome, instead of a barrier that cuts us off from what we want, our quality of life can increase dramatically, even though our ability to do things hasn't changed.
When we view things as a challenge, we put ourselves in CONTROL of the situation, and thereby enable ourselves to have the power to CHOOSE how we feel about problems, and DECIDE what to do about it.
I have been on the opposite side of this equation, and felt like everything was hopeless, I wasn't in control, and nothing would help. But, after a nurse kindly, but firmly, made me aware that I had to do the work to get better, I realized that the situation was very much in my control, and that I had to become my own advocate and voice my opinions of treatment, and let the dr know what helps and what doesn't. And, it is ALWAYS ok to get a second opinion!
Anyway, I wanted to thank you for these encouraging articles that echo the life-changing advice I received. It is always encouraging to remember that ultimately, we decide how we feel about a given situation.
