Have you ever been prescribed a medication and for one reason or another your doctor changes things... changes the dosage or even puts you on a different medication?
Do you have expired medication in your home? (go look okay? check the expiration date!) even the over-the-counter (OTC) medicines you use have expiration dates.
What do you do with the leftovers? You know...the pills left over...what do you or what did you...do with them? Are they still in your medicine cupboard? What do you do with them?
Disposing of our unused medicine safely is an important step and we are the ones responsible to do it. Many people will flush them down the toilet and that isn't good. It then introduces our water supply to our medications! YIKES! Some people have even just tossed them out with the trash! Double YIKES! can't do that either.
So...what do you do with the leftovers then?
Some people may have been told to mix the leftovers with cat litter or sawdust or any other inedible products to discourage the wild animals from eating them when left in the trash and that may work... but...eventually?...that trash will end up in a landfill somewhere and it will leach into the ground. Don't spoil the earth with the leftovers okay?
For whatever reason you have prescription leftovers...please dispose of them safely and with care. It's not safe to keep them around and you don't want someone to accidentally take something that is expired or even unsafe for them...so please...give thought to how you dispose of your unused leftover meds and do it safely...it's your responsibility.
