it's Bell Let's Talk Day... #BellLetsTalk #depression let's spread awareness and get the conversation going
The following was left for me in response to the "Let's talk about sex" entry and although I wasn't asked for a response I feel compelled to give one...I hope you will bare with me.
"As long as I can remember sex has hurt. I have been married for 25 years and I would say that the last 13 or so years have been no sex. I can't get comfortable and I feel bad since my husband wants to "just cuddle" but then he keeps going and then I get tense which makes the pain worse. I feel like a failure as a wife." My thoughts on this comment are rapid and I'll try to make some sense of them... Let me first say right off the bat....YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE AS A WIFE!! NOPE! you're not! many women go through a stage where sex becomes painful...there are many reasons why and there are also as many options to help. Why do you get tense? if you can understand why and communicate that with your husband...could you both come up with ways to help you relax before, during and after sex?...keeping ourselves relaxed before and during sex isn't always easy...we're concerned about our bodies, our performance abilities, pleasing our partners...our pain...among other things. We live too much in our heads sometimes. Explore what makes you uncomfortable and discuss it openly with your partner. **Language Warning**Sensitive Topic Warning**read with consideration and caution**
Have you ever wanted to get lost in a bottle? Whether it's a bottle of pills or alcohol have you ever wanted to crawl inside that bottle and get lost for a little while? Maybe your choice is a toke, a line, or joint instead, but have you ever just wanted to get lost? Do you or have you ever abused substances in the hopes of numbing your physical pain or your emotional pain? What about your mental pain? Do you seek relief in the form of one substance or another to relieve your pain? Be honest please. Do you abuse substances in the hopes of finding relief even if for only a little while? Has your health, home-life, and/or employment been affected by your substance use? Deep and heavy personal questions I know, but please give them some thought. Understanding the impact and role substance use and/or abuse has had within your life may be difficult, but it's something that can be done. I hope the following will help you to begin taking the steps you need for you moving forward. There are other options...will you explore them? You're struggling again but that doesn't mean you've lost the fight. And just because you've hit rock bottom, doesn't mean you should call it home. YOU are a warrior. This battle doesn't ever stand a chance. ~~Unknown~~ Picture taken in Collingwood, ON The winter blues...the seasonal BLAHS...are just two ways to describe how seasonal changes affect some people. Seasonal Affective Disorder...also known as SAD...is real and although men do experience it too...it's experienced more often by women. Are you one of them? I am, and for me the winter months are my "shining"...with little to no social interaction...cut off from the world around me...isolated...the depression sinks in taking me with it some days...and it leaves me feeling tired, anxious, emotional, and discombobulated...just to name a few. The following article comes from the Mayo Clinic and it covers...diagnosis, natural and medicinal treatment options, self-management options, how to talk to your doctor and even what to expect from them. As someone who experiences SAD too, I thought it an important topic to share with you here. I hope you will give this article a read. If you're experiencing the Fall/Winter form of SAD too...the warmer, sunnier months are coming!...hang in there! If you experience the rare Spring/Summer form of SAD...well, I hope this article will help you to make your experience this year a little easier for yourself. We may experience seasonal depression...but there are things we can do to help ourselves. Please take good care of you and always be gentle. Tammy I wouldn't wish what I go through on anyone... but it would be nice for some understanding. I get frustrated too when I'm not able. |
