Anxiety

If you have ever experienced an anxiety attack you know how vulnerable it can make you feel. 

To have moments in your life when you feel anxious is normal. A first date, first day on a new job...are normal feelings of anxiousness because it's something new and exciting. The unknown can cause us to feel a little anxious sometimes but eventually we get over it. 

Then there are times for some people when it's not that easy. Anxiety rules life. Fear becomes your best friend. Even things you have done before will now make you feel anxious. 

You may even avoid social gatherings. Large crowds become overwhelming to the senses. High levels of anxiety can                                                                                           cause us to shut down and close out the world.

Finally connected...

After many attempts the website is now connected to the Facebook page.  You can now navigate to Facebook from this page in two ways...

1) click the above button or 2) click the Facebook icon located on the right side of the page underneath the Archives section...there is also an option for Twitter, email etc, but for now only the Facebook icon is functional.

I am still having difficulty connecting articles together and have contacted the site provider for assistance. Hopefully this won't take much longer.

Thank you for your patience as I work through the changes.

How to hug yourself....

I don't know about you but there are days when I just need a hug. Unfortunately, living single makes that a little difficult some days. There may be days when you can ask close friends, family, or other people close to you for the hug you need and there will also be days when you are alone but still needing a hug. 

Well, on days like that...I give myself a hug. Now I know it sounds odd but give it a second. There are times in our lives when we'll have no one around us...days when we're struggling and needing help... times when we need to attend to our physical needs such as needing a hug or a comforting touch...but we're alone. During those moments of our lives, I believe...we can learn to hug ourselves and give ourselves the comforting touch we need. Yes we can! 

So here it is...how to hug yourself one step at a time...it does help if you give it a chance.

Wrap your arms around yourself.
Squeeze a little tight.
A little tighter.
A little tighter still.
And when you don't think you could possibly squeeze any tighter.....take a deep breath.
And squeeze a little tighter still.

Hugs...they really are a feel good thing and we can learn to give ourselves those feelings when we need them.  

Hugs work because we feel safe in someone's arms...ever notice that? Well...You can learn to feel safe in your own arms too! 

take good care of you and hug yourself today!?

Connecting the Pain Behaviours

In many ways, our behaviours are inter-connected with one another. Our behaviours are shaped by the rewards and consequences we receive as a result of our behaviours as well as the positive and negative happenings in our lives. Our behaviours are conditioned responses to our environments.

If we were to look at our behaviours as a simple math problem such as A+B=C, we can see how our behaviours can be anticipated, understood and even changed. Using the equation, take a look at your list of pain behaviours. Do you see how your behaviours connect together?

Often behaviours are a result of a trigger. We may know what our triggers are and there may be others that we won't know about until we are triggered by them. Regardless of the trigger, our behaviour serves a purpose in our lives at that given moment. You may also find that you experience multiple triggers that cause you to do what you do.
