Whether you bring along a friend for company, or walking your dog, or you bring along some music....walking is a pure feel good thing with many health benefits.
Now some people might say they walk enough in their day shopping, or while at work or even while chasing after the kids and family...but I'm not talking about that walking.
What I'm talking about is the walking that is just for the sake of walking. The walking where you clear your mind of all distracting thoughts and walk...walk to feel good, walk to breathe in deep, walk to improve your health...just walk.
Don't beat yourself up if you need to take breaks while out on your walk...take them as you need it. It's not about walking as fast as you can either...but walking at a pace that is comfortable for you. Dress comfortably too when you do go out okay?...wear shoes that give you support and clothes that allow you to move freely. Don't forget to bring along some water too and drink it when you need. Some find doing some light stretching before and after the walk helps to keep muscles loose and moving.
When the weather outside is frightful...many people turn indoors for their walking. Some malls open early for the morning walkers and there are also community programs that offer group walks as well. Have you explored this option for you?
There are real health benefits to just going for a walk. Check with your doctor to ensure it's safe for you to do and then get out and go for a walk...bring a camera along if you'd like and take pictures of the sights in your neighbourhood...stop and have a coffee at the local coffee house...say hi to the people you meet on the street. SMILE! and feel good about getting out and improving your health.
