Breaking Negative Behaviours

I think one of the greatest powers we have as people is that we are always changing, always evolving and always moving forward. Life moves fast and change happens all the time whether we like it or not. As life and the world changes around us, so can we change. I'll be honest though, breaking negative behaviours isn't easy...but it is possible.

I have mentioned that my worst pain behaviour is the way I talk to myself because it would often feed my other negative behaviours. Before we can tackle the hard stuff we need to start with how we treat ourselves first. Learning to talk to ourselves in a calming, loving and caring manner is very important when living with pain. Pain is hard to live with but when we tear ourselves down it gets harder.
When you are feeling upset or particularly negative, do you talk to yourself or about yourself in a depreciating way to others? If so, ask yourself not only why you do this when you are upset, but also ask yourself what is upsetting you. Ask yourself if what you're saying is really true and challenge yourself when you hear you say "yes".

When you find yourself talking to you in a negative, depreciating way, stop yourself and ask why you deserve such treatment? Is this the best way to talk to yourself to motivate you through what you are going through?

Do you understand that when you repeat the negative you may have heard from someone in your life you are giving it power? Words, especially negative self-talk, needs to be changed. Before you can do that however, you need to decide that what you are saying to yourself is not helping you and that it is only keeping you from healing.

Words hurt and leave bruises we cannot see but last a life-time. Even the words we say to ourselves.

Before you can learn to live with your pain, you need to start with how you talk to yourself. How do you talk to you when no one else is listening? Give it some thought.

take good care of you...this step can be hard...but you are well worth the effort!
