Quieting the mind to your thoughts is tricky sometimes thought isn't it? Our thoughts can be distracting indeed. Sometimes for me, it helps if I stare at a picture I find relaxing (one of the beach usually does it for me). When I have something to stare at, focusing on my breathing makes ignoring my thoughts is easier.
It takes some time to get the hang of this so don't stop trying okay? Start off with short periods of time and build up as you get more comfortable.
