NEWS FLASH - doctors are close to developing and engineering a pill that we can take that will "trick" our body into believing it has already eaten...thus helping us to lose weight by not eating.
Am I the only one concerned by this? It truly made me stop and admittedly I was pissed!
Now you may be wondering why this would bother me so much and really? I have a few reasons. The first one being that here we go again...there is a pill to solve our problems. Instead of teaching someone how to eat...what to eat...how to prepare healthy meals...just generally improve their overall quality of life...it's here...take a pill instead.
Instead of empowering someone to actually work at understanding...changing and managing their eating habits and maybe even get out and exercise...to be actively involved in their lives...no...here...take a pill.
With this "new medical advancement" we will be able to eat whatever we want...we won't ever have to exercise...and yet? we will still lose weight...what message is this sending? go ahead! we've got a pill to fix everything...don't worry about your health...take a pill...and that's not even considering our younger generations growing up with body issues and self esteem problems...don't worry...take a pill...it'll fix everything. SERIOUSLY? this is wrong!
Stopping and tricking our bodies from eating by taking a pill may help someone to lose weight temporarily but in the long run? it won't work...it just won't...I have to break it you...
Our food intake is as much about our individual behaviours as it is about our needs for nourishment. Give it some thought....if you're depressed does food soothe you? if you turn to food as a soothing thing...what happens when you take a pill to stop eating? How will you soothe your emotions now? If you eat because you're bored...what then? if you didn't have something better to than to eat food before...what's changed now so that you won't go back to food when you're bored again?
Seriously!...If you didn't have the coping skills before the pill and you turned to food...and you still don't have different coping skills...you're still going to turn to the food. Food isn't the issue...it's what drives you to the food that's the issue...and if you don't deal with that? no pill is going to change anything.
Whether you take a pill or not...you are conditioned to eat. When your brain is yelling at you "hey it's dinner time...we need to eat"...it's been conditioned in you...what happens then? How does popping a pill recondition years of eating? It doesn't.
Taking a pill to trick our body into thinking it's already eaten is just another way of messing us up. I find it hard to believe that any real "doctor" the kind who don't do harm and actually want to help...would suggest this.
But sadly...I can see this becoming the newest fad...it's a quick fix that requires little to no work on our part to be successful. Pop a pill...just like that...and boom....no effort...no work...weight loss. I can see lots of people wanting this quick fix...and this concerns me greatly.
Please...don't pop a pill to trick your body into thinking you've already eaten...change your eating habits... learn why you turn to food...take control of your life instead of giving it to another damn pill...PLEASE!?!
