Me Days

Yesterday you may have noticed I took a "Me Day".  "Me Days" are days that I schedule for me to do the things I need to take care of me. To be honest, I also take "Me Mornings", "Me Afternoons" and there are even the "Me Minutes". Over the past few years, allowing myself to take  "Me Days" has been my saving grace.

When the pain was controlling my life, my "Me Days" were spent on the couch in my pj's doing absolutely nothing. Nothing for me, nothing for my child, nor my home. I would dwell on the negativity that was my life. and on all that I had lost.  Those days I now realize weren't really "Me Days", they were "Pain Days".

My "Me Days" now, are days just for me to do the things that make me smile. Whether they are days spent with friends I don't get to see often enough, or taking off for a day at the park feeding the squirrels and enjoying the sunshine with my daughter, "Me Days" are for doing whatever makes me feel good. "Me Mornings", "Me Afternoons", and "Me Minutes" are blocks of my day that I set aside to recharge my batteries. They're really not much different than the "Me Days" just shorter.

Me Days can also include bubble baths, comfy clothes, music, writing and art work, hobbies and crafts too. The trick is to do the things that make you smile, that make you feel good, the things that allow you to heal and to enjoy your life...without leaving scars behind.

We spend so much time taking care of the needs of others, our homes, our jobs and such, we usually put our needs aside. Taking the time to care for our needs is just as important. Learning what calms us and makes us smile, helps to overcome the negativity that pain can bring. It does not make you selfish! it does not make you lazy! it means you love yourself enough to do what you need to heal...and that's okay!

So when you're feeling overwhelmed by your pain, schedule yourself some "Me Time" to recharge your batteries and focus on your needs...it's a feel good thing!

Take good care of you
