- spend the day in bed or laying down all day, this does not take into account the days you are resting to recover...this reflects how you spend most if not all of your days
- not taking care of your daily needs like eating, showering or getting dressed
- you have given up on the activities you once enjoyed because of your pain
- isolating yourself from friends and family...avoiding social functions or family get togethers
- your thoughts are taken over by all that you feel you have lost because of your pain
- when asked how you are your response most often includes a comment about your pain
- increase use of substances such as drugs and alcohol to get through your day or to numb your pain
- engaging in self-abusive behaviours
- out of control emotions lashing out at self and others
- ignoring the needs of your home because you lack the energy or have stopped caring about your environment
If you notice that some of the signs reflect your life please be gentle with you ok? Recognizing the signs is the first step to being able to change them. You know your life better than anyone else and if you can see the signs in your life that pain has control, there are things you can do to change that.
